The photograph is a screenshot from the animated television production Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer which was first aired on NBC television network in America in 1964. It makes a very Christmas-y picture.
The cartoon production is a spin off from the famous song of the same name which was written by Johnny Marks. In the animation Sam the Snowman narrates the story of Rudolph, a reindeer born in the North Pole with a glowing red nose. Rudolph’s father is Donner, who just happens to be the lead reindeer for Santa Claus. Donner is very ashamed of his son’s red nose and all the other reindeers are too. The story goes on and Rudolph teams up with one of Santa’s helpers, a misfit elf called Hermey, and eventually the two run off together to seek fame and fortune.
After a series of adventures the gruesome twosome return home as heroes and with a Christmas blizzard approaching and everyone fearing Christmas Day will have to be cancelled, Santa realises Rudolph’s glowing red nose will help steer his sleigh through the storm and save Christmas Day for all the kids in the world.
It’s a lovely story but can you come up with a funny photo caption for the photograph above.
A Merry Christmas to you all.
